100 fathoms below …

The depth at which sunlight no longer penetrates the ocean.

1983. The US nuclear submarine USS Roanoke embarks on a classified spy mission into Soviet waters. Their goal: to find evidence of a new, faster, and deadlier Soviet submarine that could tip the balance of the Cold War. But the Roanoke crew isn’t alone. Something is on board with them. Something cunning and malevolent.

Trapped in enemy territory and hunted by Soviet submarines, tensions escalate and crew members turn on each other. When the lights go out and horror fills the corridors, it will take everything the crew has to survive the menace coming from outside and inside the submarine.

In the dark.

Combining Tom Clancy’s eye for international intrigue with Stephen King’s sense of the macabre, 100 Fathoms Below takes readers into depths from which there is no escape.

Book Review: Slade House

Slade House Davide Mitchell

Slade House

by David Mitchell

Length: 241

Publisher: Random House

Source: Checked out from my local library

Keep your eyes peeled for a small black iron door.

Down the road from a working-class British pub, along the brick wall of a narrow alley, if the conditions are exactly right, you’ll find the entrance to Slade House. A stranger will greet you by name and invite you inside. At first, you won’t want to leave. Later, you’ll find that you can’t. Every nine years, the house’s residents—an odd brother and sister—extend a unique invitation to someone who’s different or lonely: a precocious teenager, a recently divorced policeman, a shy college student. But what really goes on inside Slade House? For those who find out, it’s already too late. . . .

Four Stars !!

This book ended up on my wish list of titles to check out from my local library. I believe I browsed their selection in the haunted house category.

Slade House appears to be just that, a book about creepy ghosts lurking in the hallways of an old mansion…. oh…. noooo it is not!

Mitchell has a fantastic imagination. To write a great story that flows over decades, has dynamic action, and vivid scenes are skills any author wants to have, but oh my word his imagination! I kept thinking to myself, “FREAKY!!”

David Mitchell does not pull out the gore in this title. No blood here. It’s a quick read that I enjoyed thoroughly.

If you like terms such as: lacuna, orison, aperture, operandi, or banjax, then you will want to pick up Slade House.

I’m sure I will read more of his work. He is well know for The Bone Clocks and Cloud Atlas.

See all of Mitchell’s titles on Amazon.
